Decorex Virtual
Design Event with a Mythological Flair
the BRIEF
Decorex is Europe’s leading high-end design event, established in 1978 as a setting for high-end interior design professionals to meet and do business. Over time their mission has evolved, aligning with the changing needs of the industry. For 43 years they hosted Europe’s leading interior design event – but they needed to go a step further and release year-round digital services, starting with the premiere of their very first virtual event.
the CHALLENGE
With the entire exhibition industry upended by the COVID-19 pandemic, many show organizers have been thrust into the unfamiliar world of virtual tradeshows—a place many actively resisted visiting until they simply had no choice. Event directors and marketing teams scrambled to create digital versions of their live events but struggled as to how to create dynamic digital marketing campaigns. Decorex needed to quickly create a short video displayed on their website, directing attendees to the new virtual version of this popular event.

the SOLUTION
Working from a rough Word document version of the video brief, it required the use of the existing branding created by Ink Valley with original art created by Anna Glover, an award-winning design studio specializing in luxury wallpaper and surface design. I built a storyboard using the original art as inspiration capturing the mythology/textiles look and feel of the creative. The action is smooth and fluid, with the mythical horse as a central focus, it guides the action via the text narrative while textile elements are in constant movement. The project required the static horse to be rigged and animated, and 3d laptops, iPads, and iPhones were used to emphasize the delivery platform for the event.
